PB&J IN MANHATTAN "Bon Appetit" August 1999
When the kid lurking inside every jaded New Yorker demands a treat, Peanut Butter & Co. is there to answer the call.
Owned and operated by 26-year-old former adman Lee Zalben, the Greenwich Village spot is ground zero for a nostalgia fix. On the menu are sandwiches like the Fluffernutter (peanut butter and marshmallow fluff), the Peanut Butter Cup (peanut butter and Nutella) and the Elvis (peanut butter, banana, and honey; fried). Add strawberry or chocolate egg cream, carrot sticks and potato chips, and you've got a hit of retro comfort that's simply unbeatable. (Peanut Butter & Co., 240 Sullivan Street; 212-677-3995.)
